Ending

Thickening air
Heat rising
Mist hovering

Sight unseen
Glowing lights
Journey returning
Homeward bound

Feet aching
Smile wide
Ending time

One month in time

As a tide must return
A season will change
As the moon hides the sun
Nature alters and renews
As a raindrop must fall
Water dispels in heat
As the world becomes dry
The earth will crack and explode

As snow falls
Thick and deep
As rain drops
Thick and deep
As fire burns
Thick and deep
A moment
A day
A season
A year
Different places
Changing times
A moment
A day
A season
A year

As snow falls
Thick and deep
As rain drops
Thick and deep
As fire burns
Thick and deep

As a year passes
Not to be forgotten
As a season passes
Not to be repeated
As a day passes
That's seared in memory
A moment passes
That may, one day, return!

As another summer approaches for Australia it makes me think about last summer and all the events that occured at the same time. The extremes of weather conditions still leaves me stunned. This poem is one I have been thinking about for a while and decided it was time to post it.

One of my friends asked me if I had a melody in mind. I did when I first wrote this and also it comes across when I read it that I still have one in mind. However, I neither have the knowledge or talent that allows me to create a melody that someone else could use. I am more than happy for someone else to do that.

Remember them

I feel the presence of those
Who have gone before:
Remember them.

Do not forget
Their deeds:
Remember them.

Do not forget
Their sacrifices:
Remember them.

Lest we forget

Frozen

The world freezes -
The ground I tread upon
All white and clean
Turning black
Polished and hidden

The wind rouses -
The leaves dancing lightly
They twirl and float
Then tumble
Lifeless and brittle

The air hovers -
The land a haze of mist
It gleams and shines
Yet still cloaked
Shrouded in coldness

The world frozen -
The ice starts to weep
Light warms and wakes
Then slumbers
Drowsy from fresh frost

Spirit of Open Access - Haiku

To celebrate Open Access Week 2009 SHERPA ran a competition to find a Haiku that summarises the "Spirit of Open Access".

After reading the winning haiku by Miggie Pickton I did not mind having one of my haiku being one of the many runners-up. Congratulations to Miggie for writing such a lovely and positive haiku that does capture capture the spirit of open access. Also thanks to SHERPA for coming up with such a fantastic idea.

My entry that was mentioned:

Empowerment comes
To those who share their knowledge
With the world beyond

It seems a waste not to share the other three haiku that I entered so here they are :-)

Seeking open skies
Allow knowledge to grow free
A new world springs forth

Or should it be - I still can't make up my mind...

Seeking open skies
Allow knowledge to grow free
Spring forth a new world!

Blossoms spring from those
Who plant the seeds of progress
With all whom they know

Break down ivy walls -
Sow and harvest all knowledge
A garden for all.

On a dark street

On a dark, dark street
Rushing by, by the window
So many cars, cars rushing by
Sitting at a table, a table just for me
Watching so closely,
So closely as the world goes by
By the time, time has moved on
My meal is gone,
Gone and empty the plate remains
Time to go, go the long way home

On a dark, dark street
I rush by, by the window
So many cars, cars rushing by
Sitting at a table, a table just for you
Watching so closely,
So closely as the world goes by
By the time, time has moved on
Your meal is gone,
Gone and empty the plate remains
Time to go, go the long way home

Lives alter and grow
Yet moments
Make you know
There are connections
That will always
Sustain you
Over great distances
Through times
Of wonder and sorrow
Everything changes
Yet we remain

A bottle of happiness

Happiness hovers and catches your breath

Thoughts gush and rush forth

Preserve this feeling:

Bottle it!

And then

Bring it out again

To help face the darker days

That have been before and will come again!

Moves

Close me eyes
Let the moment
Capture me

Hear the tune
Flow through
My skin

Upon the music
I move
I sway
I become alive

Taste the heat
Of our rhythm
Pulsing through

I exhale, pause
Then it begins
Again and again

Feel everything
When the world
Finds its moves

Twittery: volume 2

more Poetry amongst the tweets

many moments glimpsed / thoughts, seemingly random - yet together they tell the story of a life: experiences and impressions expressed #poem

#poem

  • Gloom sets in / Strain my eyes looking for brightness / Beyond clouds that have settled upon my day. A glimmer of light smiles through #poem
  • -- Life -- Celebrate this day. Your birth was a gift to others: Birthdays are for you! #poem
  • Snow rests, hovering upon the trees / a gust of wind blows through / Then white floats upon the chill / Sweeping to the frozen ground! #poem
  • I now know the directions I will follow / And I have gone beyond the haze that has been hovering / Will you walk with me a while? #poem
  • Altering colours fade into the sky: Embers become grey-blue ash. The world's darkening, bruised skin / Sparkles with crystal flecks! #poem
  • Part 2: Those who tell you what to dream: Leave behind. Yet from them you will learn / Who will hold you & still help you take flight #Poem
  • Part 1 - Dreams are more than what you think you should have! Are beyond the reflection you see: Gifts that you can reach for! #poem
  • Cold night / bashful moon / white noise / falling through the frosted air / close my eyes, letting the rain send me to sleep #poem
  • A moment / life pauses / thoughts still - breath deep / Reflect, watch, take in / Sun's light, dancing leaves - take a moment / Smile! #poem
  • Guide to where? My inspiration's stuck / thoughts clogged by an uncertain, distant end / so many rambling processes & plans to map out #poem
  • Prod my brain / where u at? Sleeping the day away; hiding within a haze; trying 2 grapple with intelligent thinking: yet finding none #poem
  • Day drags / Head in another space / Thoughts on another time / Make a list that'll make this day pass by: 1x1 I'll achieve something #poem

Possible beginnings via a tweet...
  • Veins of fire streak & stretch across the blue / Shades of blue alter & intermingle... #poem - Wonder if I can make this a sonnet? Will c :)

Winters Sonnet 2.0

Why enter the chill of a winter morn
When homes warm cocoon ensnares me inside?
The light, drawing my eyes towards the dawn
Reminds me the cold will not long abide.

As I exhale my breath enters the morning cold
And as a cloud appears before my sight,
Yet my breath, while seeming ever so bold,
Before a gentle breeze swiftly takes flight.

Gently rays of light expand and appear,
Touching the frozen night upon the ground.
Rising up, the sun warms all that is near,
Frees the world from the frost holding it bound.

As the night recedes from the warmth of day,
Memories of night-time's cold drifts away.

The Octagon

Attention!
See me,
Hear me -
Peacock!

What remains?
Nothing much to see or hear
Fleeting and forgettable
Unremarkable; unimpressive;
Nothing new -
This preening parade
Has passed before...

The Idealised Librarian

Teach meanings;
Find knowledge;
Guide all to the centre
Of what is known.

Lost within the seas and oceans
Of thoughts and beliefs;
Point to what has most meaning,
Guide one to what they are seeking.

Through the mist of what is known
One can seek the fire,
And this person can start a blaze
Within another.

Those words

I’ve a thought,
A tune
Going round & round
In my head
Yet can’t share it
Let it be heard out loud

(Feeling stifled
By those who control
The words of the dead
)

See I got a clue
From that song
That was piping through
And even though those words
Have set my mind a blaze;
I must let them fade -

(Feeling stifled
By those who control
The words of the dead
)

For you see
If I take those words,
Make them mine
The ones who hold the strings
Will march me away
Cut me off
Cause to them
I’ll have done wrong

(Feeling stifled
By those who control
The words of the dead
)

So many things rushing my way
But I mustn’t let myself play
Shut it out
Don’t let them set my thoughts
My actions
To create, renew, reawaken...
Why can’t I play?
Share what makes me feel alive
With all those who are part of my life?

(Feeling stifled
By those who control
The words of the dead
)

Cause there are those
Who are stuck
With dusty thoughts
That this world should stick to paper

(Feeling stifled
By those who control
The words of the dead
)

Maybe I should just
Take a risk....
Nah can’t do it
Cause they’ll
Shut the door
Cut me off
Cause to them
I’ll have done wrong

(Feeling stifled
By those who control
The words of the dead
)

Where you at
Can’t you see
How I’m simply trying
To experience the world
So much to see
To create, alter, tweak, throw out

Feeling stifled
By those who control
The words of the dead
But those words:
Their thoughts, their influence
Are my world

So lock me down
Cut me off
Tell me that I’m doing wrong
That I should stop playing
In this world which was made for me!

Twittery: volume 1

Poetry amongst the tweets

Amongst random thoughts u see glimpses of the world that is my life's foundation / twittery is the sprinkling of beginnings & maybes
  • numbers flicker past my eyes / chaos & problems not clear / though I see each 1 pass / I let myself drift / listening 2 passing sounds
  • That world seems too distant to be real / this world drains & I wish its existence would stop / I want to be able to choose
  • So much 2 play, learn, grasp / can time stop so I can catch up? / another day goes by / take in little x little / understand bout .01%
  • & thus a very long day begins. Tap, tap: churn through so slowly that secs seem like mins. Ticking 1 wee task at a time. End scene...
  • I see shapes within u / Hidden by rough edges: The potential 2 become / What I know u can be - I seek 2 carve away & reveal.... ???
  • "life brings peace / once you know to fly on / the magic quilted from the universe." twittermagnets
  • There are those / That seem to grow / Yet their mind is still / Playing childish games

Roller Coaster Ride

Let me lose myself in this dance
Let a song take me to a place
Where rhythm is my drug of choice

The music takes me on a roller coaster ride
Easing me into a spiralling sensation of sound and song
Tapping out a groove that leaves me
Swinging long after the tune fades
And the next song takes flight.

Faceting a Friend

Charming Cheshire Mouse
Grinning a mischievous smile
Playing with our minds

Always with a grin
Radiating from within:
Touching all our hearts.

Seeing light from dark:
Forgiving the wrongs been done,
Never to forget.

Sense of adventure
Plus a compassionate soul
Blends to make you, you...

Dreams can change...

Dreams can change how you face the world
Take you places beyond yourself
- beyond your imagination

My dreams brought me here
- took me from the hidden depths of my heart

And upon this post - 50 along
I now dream things
That once, I never imagined I could dream...
